Originally ordered by the city of Dallas, the truck was returned to the factory and was subsequently purchase by the city of Fort Worth. Roanoke bought it from Fort Worth in 1949 for $500 and it became the first motorized fire apparatus to be operated by the Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department. It served the city in front-line and reserve status until the early 70's. It remained in storage until 2000 when members of the Roanoke Fire Department began restoration efforts to return it to its original granduer. Donations from the community funded the truck restoration and remodeling of the original Roanoke Volunteer Fire Station to permit display of "Roanokes first Engine Number One."
