IN 1862, federal forces seized the roadbed, but the rolling stock was held by the confederates and vanished. reorganized in 1866 as the Nashville and Decatur Railroad, it was leased and then purchased by the L & N Railroad. It has remained in continuous operation since then, presently in the CSX system. With the end of the passenger service, the passenger depot was demolished in 1959. Built in 1858, the brick freight depot is one of two antebellum railroad buildings remaining in Tennessee and is recognized as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
