Less visited, this secluded bay on Maui's east side offers some spectacular coral and a variety of fish. Great snorkleing inside the bay and islands, but divers can venture outside the islands to depths of 60 feet. Yellow tangs are esp. plentiful.

There are several ways to access this area. Snorkelers can just enter from the sandy beach and swimm under the old pier and out toward the small rock islands seen in the middle of this photo. Divers can enter either off the pier or by walking out toward the islands. Venturing out beyond their protection is for intermediate to advanced divers. Maui's east side is quite choppy in the winter, and, at any time, the calm of the morning is best.
This was one of our favorite spots. We took and early morning snorkel with a gentle rain, and as we looked back on the perfect black sand beach, there was a double rainbow over Hana. And, we had the entire beach to ourselves! The variety and abundance of fish was above average.
