Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park is a 3 acre beach park. It contains picnic shelters, a playground and restrooms. There is a casual snack bar.
From mid-February to mid-November, there is a $2/car parking fee. Other times of the year, there is no charge to enter.

Park and walk the sandy beach, scanning the mudflats for loafing terns and winter shorebirds like short-billed dowitchers; listen for marsh wrens and clapper rails, and wintering mergansers and loons in the open water pier. Area can get busy in summer and on weekends. One of the best shorebird sites in Hernando Co.
