This statue represents Christ Redeemer.
It was erected by the will of the Counseller Ayres Ornelas and his wife, D. Maria de Jesus de Sousa Holatein de Ornelas after one of the biggest crisys of their lifes.
The sculptor didn´t worry about the details. Instead, he was preoccupied with it´s grandeur. The lines are strong without being harsh. The traces are firm and he knew how to gave him royalty.
The arms are rise in cross, not crucified but to embrace and bless. And in deep and large folds with remarkable sobriety, the mantle, large, loose, a wonderfull vision of reality covering all the suffering.
Natural countryside flowers compose the picture in gracefull curves.
This statue was inaugurated in 1927. Four years later, in the 12th October 1931, was inaugurated the Rio de Janeiro statue of Christ Redeemer.
