Kutna Hora's crown jewel is the magnificent St. Barbara Cathedral (In Czech: Chrám Sv. Barbory). Construction on the Cathedral took nearly 600 years to complete, beginning in 1388 but remaining unfinished until 1905. The cathedral's facade is jaw-dropping: its towering arches and dozens of ornate spires pierce the sky. Inside, the cathedral is just as impressive. Brilliant medieval frescoes and Art-Noveau stained glass windows illustrate the town's rich history of silver mining and minting.
During the last work on the Cathedral (1905-1913) was its magnificent Gothic interiors further enhanced by numerous Art-Noveau stained-glass windows made by František Urban, depicting scenes from the history of Kutná Hora and the Czech Kingdom and reminding of those who contributed to the restoration. One of the windows is for example a remembrance of the visit of Emperor Franz Joseph I to Kutná Hora in 1906 and of his donation.
