From the Gaylord Herald Times:
"What is an OWL-Pine bear you ask? The Otsego Wildlife Legacy Society
(OWLS) began issuing “permits” in 2007 to businesses, community groups and individuals interesting in “adopting” one of the bears. Adoptees were charged with using a theme to decorate their bear. They had to agree to display it around Gaylord. Bears are decked out in lederhosen and Alpine Village themes. The OWLS came up with the OWL-Pine bear idea as a way to add an “up-North feel” to Gaylord and as a fundraiser for the club’s “Gateway to Gaylord” — a beautification project at the I-75 and M-32 intersection.
Maps featuring the location of the bears may be found at the Gaylord/Otsego Chamber of Commerce Information Center at 125 South Otsego Avenue, Gaylord, or by visiting the Herald Times Web site, www.gaylordheraldtimes.com "
Considering its location, you would think this OWL-Pine bear would have a law enforcement/city government theme to it, but instead it has a traditional "Alpine Village" theme. Located at the Gaylord City Hall/City Police Building, 305 E Main, Gaylord, Michigan it was adopted by the Downtown Development Authority and was painted by Donna Copeland.
