For the third consecutive summer, the City of Fort Worth will host a national softball tournament at Gateway Park sponsored by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).

Last year, teams arrived for a 50 & Over Men's fast-pitch softball tournament from states that included California, Oklahoma, and Missouri. On July 29 running through August 2, 2009, the City of Fort Worth will host a girls 14 & Under National Softball Tournament. This tournament was awarded at the ASA National Convention held in November of 2007. With the help of the Sports Advisory Council, Fort Worth beat out hundreds of other cities for this honor.
We are excited about showcasing our excellent facilities and outstanding staff on behalf of the Parks and Community Services Department and the Metro Fort Worth ASA, says Athletic Coordinator/ASA Commissioner Brenda Grubbs.
Gateway Park has hosted numerous softball tournaments for over 26 years and was named as one of the top locations throughout the entire nation for the Women's Olympic Gold Medal Team's national tour held during the summer of 2008. In addition, the Athletics Section received the prestigious James Ferrel Award from the ASA for hosting an exceptional national tournament back in September of 2008.
