On a guided hike through the Montpelier Old Growth Forest, we were surprised to find this dumped vehicle and trash.

After James and Dolly Madison lived at Montpelier, the estate was owned by a series of families, the last being the DuPonts. Before more enlightened conservation practices were put into place, household refuse and unwanted junk were simply dumped deep into the forest on the estate property.
Some of the refuse has been cleaned up over the years, but other items like this car have been left as they are. Some of it can be glimpsed on walks around the property.
