Sitting abandoned in a small clearing in the middle of dense bush, this Caterpillar Tractor looks more like a little Matchbox toy. During the logging years, when it broke down in the forest it was left there to die.

In the 1950s, the two-tonne Caterpillar tractor on Link Rd was used to pull split totara posts and battens from the bush. When it broke down it was left where it stood for the forest to claim.
The old Crawler tractor is signposted on Link Road, a rough metal road through the centre of the Pureora forest. There is an easy flat 10 minute walking path to see the tractor.
