This sign is located at a southbound rest stop in Nanoose Bay, BC. The plaque reads:
"Home of the Nanoose Indians, charted by the Spanish in 1791, used by the Hudson's Bay Co. in the 1850's, the bay was named by Captain Richards, deriving the name from the Indian word "nuas" meaning to push in. In 1863 Notch Hill (across bay) became the home of first settler John Enos, the Giant Powder Works, and the Canadian Navy test range. On this highway side was Red Gap, a settlement for local mills."
