Taylor perplexes me. The food is quite good. I haven't had the burgers, but am told that they are outstanding. I have had a wonderful portabello quesadilla and good value tasty steak, plus a decent appetizer. My boyfriend also liked the food.
The beer, with a one time exception, is unremarkable though, and some we plain didn't like. On the first visit we sampled the amber and pale ale. One was OK, but unremarkable. The other had a weird after taste that neither of us liked. I also tried a lighter ale that didn't please me.
On the second visit, we couldn't remember which was which and had the same experience. Unfortunately I still can't keep them straight! So getting tasters is recommended! BUT, they seem to be a bit stingy about those! I remember getting the impression that they didn't love to give free tastes and the larger ones for purchase seemed over priced. Although they did give freebie tastes when asked. They certainly don't volunteer them like other places will though, and the first time there, the bartender made a comment indicating that a purchase was expected, which seemed odd since most do purchase something; they just taste in order to decide. So it was a bit strange.
With that said, on my first visit, I stumbled on an extra special bitter that was very, very good. One of the best I have had! So I was happy to return hoping for good food and that specific beer. Unfortunately it must have been a special. the ESB was not on the menu my second time there.
They also have a ton of beers, so I certainly did not sample everything. Perhaps some other beers there stand out.
Finally the atmosphere is unremarkable, but OK. It has more of a sports bar type look and would be good for watching a game.
If anything go there for the portabello quesadilla. If you like portabellos, you will love that thing! And again, I am told that burgers are equally outstanding.
