The monument consists of a base and a sculpture of three firemen. Two of the firemen have hats. One is carrying a woman. One carries a bullhorn and the third has a hose in his hands. The monument is located near the playground.
The monument was founded by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, an honorary member of Knickerbocker Volunteer Fire Company No. 5
At the base is written:
"To Commemorate the Volunteer Fire Department San Francisco
1849-1866 Erected 1933
By Bequest Of Lillian Hitchcock Coit."
