Memorial Church, Harvard Yard - Cambridge, MA - Unique Steeples on Waymarking.com

In Cambridge, on the campus of Harvard University, is a brick building with a beautiful white spire that is the Memorial Church. The church is located on the "New Harvard Yard," which is the eastern portion of the core of the campus that is located near Broadway and Cambridge Street. It replaced Appleton Chapel on that location, though a portion of the church shows the name Appleton Chapel on it.

The steeple is located on the south side of the structure, facing the green open space and Widener Library. The front of the church is brick, with a square belfry with two levels above the entance. The belfry is topped by a very tall and slender octagon-sided steeple, topped by a windvane.

The church was dedicated in 1932 on Armistice Day (November 11) and originally memorialized those from Harvard who died in World War I, but it has since included veterans from other wars, as well.

Regular services are held at this church, at 11:00 am each Sunday. Services are broadcast on WHRB, the college radio station, at 95.3 FM.
