The City Hall was constructed from 1914 through 1915 with its completion in 1916. The four-story bluff brick building was constructed in a Italian Palazzo form and is an example of the Renaissance Revival mode of Beaux-Arts Classicism. The building was designed by C.D. Hill of Dallas. Originally the building had a large auditorium attached to its back, this was heavily damaged in Hurricane Carla in 1962 and replaced by a new two-story office addition in 1965. The building continues to serve as Galveston City Hall.
