Marker Name: Pacific Power & Light Company Dam and Power House
Marker Text: The dam and power house were constructed in 1909-1910. Power was first generated on November 1, 1910, removing Bend from the age of kerosene lamps and gas lights. T.H. Foley was the first plant manager.
Originally known as the “Bend Water, Light & Power Company,” the utility was acquired by the present owner in 1930.
The production of power made possible economic development and permitted the emergence of Bend as an industrial center.
The dam backs up water to form “Mirror Pond,” a mile-long lake reflecting homes, pines, and mountains, adding much to the beauty of the city.
