Statuary Hall is a large, two-story, semicircular room that was used from 1807-1857 for meetings of the U.S. House of Representatives. U.S. Capitol tour guides love to tell the story of how John Quincy Adams used the acoustics in Statuary Hall to eavesdrop on the conversations of other House members located on the opposite side of the room. A floor plaque marks the former location of Adams' desk on the west side of Statuary Hall. During a tour, your guide will ask your group to stand in a circle around the floor plaque while he or she goes and stands at the corresponding spot on the east side of the Hall. The guide will then proceed to quietly tell you about how Adams used the Hall's acoustics to his advantage from a distance many yards away and you can hear the story loud and clear as a result of the acoustics.

The posted coords are for the visitors underground entrance to the U.S. Capitol located in the Capitol Plaza.
