First Settler Marker

One of the earliest, if not the earliest, settlers who built a permanent residence on the eastern-most portion of Massachusetts' Cape Ann was Richard Tarr. This marker stands near the spot on which his original home was located.

The inscription on the marker reads: "Here stood the cabin of Richard Tarr founder of the Tarr family on Cape Ann. He came to Marblehead in 1680, then settled in Saco, Maine. Driven thence by Indians, he became the first settler of Sandy Bay (Rockport)in 1690."

Mr. Tarr is buried not far from this spot in the Old First Parish Burying Ground.

But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
