The Japanese gazebo and stone pagodas from Kaizu, Japan currently have a home in the Japanese garden section of Friendship Park. The Avondale Municipal Art Committee commissioned Goodyear artist Edward Buonvecchio to paint the mural at a cost of $11,000. The mural was completed in May, 2010.
According to the artist "The Friendship Park mural was a great experience,I would get compliments and words of encouragement every day from people using the park for fitness, sports or for relaxing by the pond. As people drove by in their cars, they were always honking their horns, giving the thumbs up and yelling kudos. Some motorists would actually stop and introduce themselves to me while getting a close-up view of the mural." (Quote from the Arizona Republic article, citation link below.)
