A large star pattern forms the base of a cylindrical column of granite pieces cemented together at the center of the fountain. Today, there is no formal top to this former fountain. Only the massive base remains, with little of its history. According to The Edwards Aquifer website article "San Pedro Springs" written by Gregg Eckardt, this star-shaped fountain at one time " ... had and interesting fountainhead at its center...." The piping evident in the center of the column indicates the water from the springs fed this huge fountain and was a focal point of the park in times past. It is believed to have been built in the 1880 when the park seemed to be at its most popular.
