At Kellogg’s Grove four miles south of here, two engagements were fought during the Black Hawk War. On June 16, 1832, Capt. A.W. Snyder’s Company defeated a band of Indians, but on June 25, Indians led by Black Hawk defeated Maj. John Dement’s Battalion of Volunteers.
