Local sculptor, Jim Franklin, has created a wonderful bronze statue which sits on the south lawn of the Carnegie Library in Perry, Oklahoma. It was designed to commemorate the centennial of the Carnegie Library.
"The bronze statue features a life-size girl reading "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," as Tom Sawyer looks over her shoulder. Franklin said the story of Tom Sawyer seemed appropriate for the occasion because of its enduring legacy. The sculpture will be unveiled on the library's south lawn Wednesday as part of a 100-year anniversary celebration.
'I hope it stays forever but beyond that, it's a piece that I hope the community embraces and can continue to show that the library is a vital part of the community.'" [ Excerpt from Tulsa World article]
Jim Franklin has a sculpture studio located at 602 Cedar in Perry, OK. This statue was presented April 13, 2010 for the centennial celebration of the Carnegie Library.
