Shawn Williamson created this piece as a tribute to Josefinba De Vasconcellos, for whom he worked for from 1985.
Josefina worked on Escape to Light on the same spot. There is no plaque nor information at present at the sculpture. Rafael is an angelic figure with flowing lines. Only one side of the stone has been used. Shawn may return and reveal what is on the other side.
The Quiet Garden is suspected to have been laid out by Thomas Mawson in 1911, as a Japanese garden, from evidence left by the vestiges of plants and layout of the small ponds. Nowadays a path circles the pond and plants have been replaced. The water comes through a pipe and channel from Rydal Beck, upstream of the hall, buried under the croquet lawn.
A picture of Shawn working in situ on the piece.
