Great Western Tradition is one of many sculptures located outside the entrance to the American Quarter Horse Museum in Amarillo. It is on the north side of I-40, at Quarter Horse Dr. Next door to the museum is the American Quarter Horse Headquarters.

This sculpture depicts a cowboy on horseback, with a cow next to him trying to get away. I really like the action depicted in this sculpture. The artist did a great job showing motion in the horse and cow's stance. About 20 feet away is another sculpture very similar to this one.

Several memorial sculptures of award-winning racehorses are also outside in this museum entrance plaza.
