The view is from Mt Parihaka which is a volcanic dome rising 241 m to the northeast of the city centre. It is about 20 million years old, and part of the Harbour Fault which also includes Parakiore near Kamo, and Hikurangi near the town of the same name.[9] The dome is surrounded by the Parihaka Scenic Reserve. There is road access to the summit of Parihaka, and walking tracks through the reserve.[10]
The dome is frequently called Mount Parahaki, but the original Maori spelling of Parihaka was confirmed by the government in 2005.
This view shows the Whangarei City, Hatea River and the Whangarei Harbour. There is a road to the top and a short easy walk to the viewing platform.
