The earliest pub on this site was circa 1600 and was called the King’s Arms. The present building incorporates cast iron gothic Victorian window features, however the main part of the building is part of a rebuild in 1980. The two storey bow windows came from a house in Cheshunt and were added in circa 1870 by Henry Teale, the proprietor of a pleasure garden centered around Rye House. It is rumoured that the pleasure gardens had 12000 visitors in a single day!
