The art projects in the hospital are entirely funded through charitable funds. Creating inspiration in a place we go to seek treatment and hopefully recover, the artwork offers time for reflection.

Next to the art is a description which reads as follows:

'Ivan Black

Aslepian

Fibreglass

The sculpture suspended from the ATC ceiling was inspired by the ancient symbol of medicine, "The Staff of Asclepius", a single snake wound around a staff. Asclepius was the Greek god of healing who was often pictured with such a staff. It has been widely used throughout history (including the World Health Organisation) as a symbol for healing and medicine.

Ivan constructed the sculpture in his Pembrokeshire studio from fibreglass echoing the colours from each of the Treatment Centre levels. The movement of the outer wheels, circling the central column, mimic that of the snake entwined around Asclepius's staff.

As part of the design process, staff and patients were consulted extensively and the sculpture was installed in May 2008. The commission was funded entirely through charitable donations. www.ivanblack.co.uk'

A succession of photographs have been taken as the sculpture turned to show the kinetic movement; these are shown in the gallery.

Access is during hospital opening hours with a suggestion between 9am and 5pm as a normal guideline.
