During the Yukon Gold Rush, this was the hotel to stay at before heading off to seek your fortune.
The 4-story building is designed in the Renaissance Revival style. It was built in 1982. The architect was Max Umbrecht. The building is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
The plaque on the building reads:
"SEATTLE LANDMARK
COLONIAL HOTEL
BUILT 1901 - REHABILITATED 1982
THIS IS ANOTHER OF UMBRECHT'S
ELEGANT DESIGNS, AND AN ENLARGEMENT
AND REMODELLING OF AN EARLIER HOTEL.
IT IS PERHAPS THE MOST ELEGANT. WITH
ITS RICH WINDOW CASTINGS, CORNICES AND
BALCONIES. IT WAS REHABILITATED AND
RESTORED TO ACCOMODATE APARTMENT LIVING."
