The portion of the Lincoln Highway that runs through Woodbine contains a mile of original brick from this historic road, the longest stretch found in the state. The original brick was laid for this portion of the transcontinental US Hwy. 30 in 1921, and many of the impressive homes along the street date back to before the time. This portion of the road is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
There are several impressive sites to visit while traveling this piece of the Lincoln Highway. One of these is the Brickstreet Station Café. Located along the historic brick Lincoln Way in Woodbine, this former canopy Skelly gas station no longer provides service in the form of gas and tires, but it does offer local information, a cup of coffee and a sandwich, and of course a plate of delicious homemade pie. The black & white checkered floor accents the tables and chairs; Lincoln Way photos and memorabilia give the walls a touch of nostalgia. Outside a visitor will find a Lincoln Way sign that tells the distance to each terminus and a collection of license plates. It’s easy to find in the middle of town…just follow the brick road.
