Of all his works, the Peace Fountain (created in 1987) was Gagnon's proudest achievement. It stands 12 feet high and contains 57 life-sized interlocked bronze doves. Fifty of the doves symbolize the 50 United States, 7 represent the 7 major continents and the remaining 3 are past, present and future.
The Peace Fountain is in east part of the Rochester Peace Plaza by Barnes and Nobel and the Galleria Mall. The peace plaza was created as a gathering place for residents and employees of the downtown area, as well as the many patients and visitors of the Mayo Clinic. It is situated in the heart of downtown Rochester (formerly 1st Street SW), between two major hotels and adjacent to the Mayo Clinic.
