Ponder Slab is indeed a slab of concrete that provides passage thru the Tavern Creek, on the road that is named after the slab; Ponder Slab Road.
We had the opportunity to visit the slab twice in one week, and both times we arrived just after a rain storm. The first photos we took showed the creek to be running high, but we were able to ford to the other side. On our second visit, four days later, the water was far too high to even consider crossing the creek. Such is the experience of traveling on a road with a bridgeless water crossing! Sometimes it is necessary to find another route to get to your destination!
Portions of Ponder Slab Road are paved, but the road becomes dirt near the slab (near the bridgeless water crossing).
From my research of topo maps, it appears the slab crosses Tavern Creek, near the location where Bailey Branch and Barren Fork flow into Tavern Creek.
