There are three stacks of chimneys on the Strand side of the building and one on the Lancaster Place side. Te stack are made from brick and sandstone and are layered to produce a banding effect. The tops of the stacks are finished with carved stone and the pots on top are of terracotta and appear to be recent..

A late Victorian Building in London which has been refurbished to provide high-quality student accommodation.
In May 2010, The Duchy carried out extensive refurbishment of the top floors of Duchy House which is centrally located in London on the corner of Strand and Lancaster Place. The project involved the conversion of 12,000sq ft of office space into high quality student accommodation. In total there are 67 student rooms as well as common areas. The entire area has been leased to the Courtauld Institute of Art, one of the world’s leading centres for the study of the history and conservation of art and architecture. The institute is based next door at Somerset House and is an independent college of the University of London.
The refurbished building is considered to be one of the finest independent student accommodation buildings in London. It has been a resounding success with rooms in high demand from the student population.
