This carved stone memorial is to be found on the west wall, adjacent to the south wall, of the chancel of this village church. It is about 100cm x 60cm in size and has suffered some damage over the years with some of the raised lettering now missing.
The inscription reads (as near as I can tell):
ROGERUS FARMER
EMANUELL COLL
CANTABR A M.
HIC NUPERRIME VI-
CARIUS PIUS FIDE-
LISQUE PRAEDICA-
TOR. HIC ACENS
XV DIE MARTII
FOELICITER OBIIT
ET EIUSDEM XVII
SEPULTUS EST
1682
A rough translation is:
Roger Farmer of Emanuell College, Canterbury, MA.
He was a devout and faithful preacher, late vicar.
He died happily on the 15th March and was buried
on the 17th, 1682.
