Memorial to Roger Farmer, St.Peter's Church, Church Lane, Alstonefield, Derbyshire. - Stone Church Artefacts on Waymarking.com

This carved stone memorial is to be found on the west wall, adjacent to the south wall, of the chancel of this village church. It is about 100cm x 60cm in size and has suffered some damage over the years with some of the raised lettering now missing.

The inscription reads (as near as I can tell):

               ROGERUS FARMER	
               EMANUELL COLL
               CANTABR A M. 	
               HIC NUPERRIME VI-
               CARIUS PIUS FIDE-
               LISQUE PRAEDICA-
               TOR. HIC ACENS
               XV DIE MARTII
               FOELICITER OBIIT		
               ET EIUSDEM XVII
               SEPULTUS EST
                    1682

A rough translation is:

               Roger Farmer of Emanuell College, Canterbury, MA.
               He was a devout and faithful preacher, late vicar.
               He died happily on the 15th March and was buried 
               on the 17th, 1682.
