Former fountain in Elvas Aqueduct.
The fountain is located almost at the end of the Amoreira Aqueduct on the side of the road and was most probably used to give water to the animals (Horses, bulls and cows play an important role in the lifes of local populations even today, but today with modern trucks they can be moved faster).
The fountain placed in the aqueduct wall and is made of stone and a sort of stucco used at the time. It´s simply painted in white and yellow (could use a new paint) with only some relief decorations and on top bears the coat of arms of Portugal. It has a large tank used by the animals and one spout where the water used to run continously.
It´s out of use today.
Setting: Outside
Place: On the local aqueduct wall by the road
Use: Nothing
