These are two large fountains that are on each side of the walkway that connects University Avenue with Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto. This is a busy area with the City Hall, Court House and Osgoode Hall being in such close proximity.
"The McMurtry Gardens of Justice Water Fountains were originally created by Landscape Architect Michael Hough as significant design elements to the landmark Courthouse building at 361 University Avenue. The fountains were designed to anchor the west end of the pedestrian walkway linking the Courthouse to Nathan Phillips Square.Symbols of balance and justice, the pair of fountains form an integral part of the landscape associated with the Metro Courthouse complex.
Through rehabilitation of the fountains, the original urban planning of the public spaces was preserved. At an unknown point in time the fountains were shut off and basins filled as landscape planters. The fountains were conserved and original design restored using the most current energy conservation systems available.Today, the fountains again form a significant cultural presence in the City of Toronto and continue to symbolize the importance we place on the values of Canadian Justice and Human Rights."
