Byberg, Peter, House - Bend, OR - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

This mid-size bungalow was built in 1916 for millwright Peter Byberg and is an example of bungalow architecture based on a mail order plan supplied by Sears and Roebuck Company. The house demonstrates a distinctive construction method in which the builder exercised the option of substituting local stone in place of the brick facing that was designed for the company’s “Honor Bilt” Model House No. 240. The Byberg House was one of the last buildings in Bend, constructed using local tuff.

In Bend, the main stone quarry was on the west side of the Deschutes River just south of the Galveston Street Bridge. The quarry was operated by the Bend Stone Company. Today, Columbia Park is located in the quarry location. Other quarries were located in Tumalo and at the base of Awbrey Butte.
