SNAG, the Misbehaving Fairy in Sidney BC

A fairy called SNAG lives in our plum tree. He has developed some bad habits recently as bottles of booze are regularly delivered to his door.

When we bought our home in Sidney years ago we didn't realize that we would have to share this space with SNAG, the fairy in the plum tree, His door is an attractive feature in our garden. We didn't know there are several other related fairies in our neighbourhood, a whole new hidden but important world.
The problems started as neighbours across the road proposed a huge redevelopment that would destroy our quiet residential neighbourhood and all the fairies. We formed the Sidney Neighbourhood Action Group (SNAG) to stop the development. The fairy, SNAG, was our conspirator and mascot but the stress of the campaign drove him to drink. These pictures of SNAG's door were on our groups website among many other neighbourhood pictures. After several large public meetings, a group website, numerous newsletters, protests, picket lines and a municipal election, SNAG was able to prevent the proposed rezoning to the benefit of all parties and fairies.
We thank our fairy, SNAG along with 180 SNAG members for their support.
SNAG's problems started with the fermenting plums falling on his doorstep. He enjoyed these like the squirrels and birds. Then he moved on to slivovitz and other hard liquor. It was a slippery slope for a elf under stress. Next was rye and scotch as he developed a taste for single malts. Now he favours Baileys or vintage port after dinner. We hope SNAG will soon improve his behaviour and do some maintenance on his door.
