Prattville is the county seat as well as the largest city in Autauga County, which was formed by the Territorial Legislature before Alabama officially became a state. Prattville was founded in 1839 by Daniel Pratt, a native of Temple, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, there were 24,303 people in the city.
