Set in this World Heritage site town of Greenwich, a church has been here for over 1,000 years...continually damaged and rebuilt. It is named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who was killed here by Viking invaders in 1012.
Our Mutual Friend was Dickens last completed novel. In the novel, an intrigue of period drama over wealth, marriages and inheritance, one of the main characters, Bella Wilfer, marries John Rokesmith in this church. Rokesmith was presumed dead though much of the novel..but the reader learns that he is the heir to a fortune... with the marriage sealing the happy ending for Bella.
