Hecla / Grindstone is a large 1,084 sq km (48 sp mi) Provincial Park which consists of Hecla Island, a large penisula of the mainland northeast of Hecla Island and two wilderness islands; Black Island and Deer Island. Hecla Island is joined to the mainland by a causeway which opened in 1975. It's 165 km on Hwy 8, from Winnipeg to Gull Harbour.

The stamp is also available from the Hecla School Interprative Centre (N 51 07.999, W 96 39.973) in the Hecla Village. You can pick up a passport here or at the campground office, if you need one. The stamp feature the historic lighthouse (visit link) that was built in 1898 to mark the entrance to Gull Harbour and to warn off vessels from a thin spit of land.

There is lots to do including golfing, camping, hiking, fossil hunting, wildlife viewing, swimming, picnicking and boating.

2011 is the third year in a row that Park vehicle permits are not required in Manitoba's Provincial Parks.

If the campground office is closed, you can send a photo of yourself in front of a sign or distinctive landmark along with your passport to: Head of Interpretation, Parks and Natural Areas, 200 Saulteaux Crescent, Winnipeg MB R3J 3W3. They will stamp your passport.
