Ravenous Decay is a work of fiction by Edmond, OK author Rebecca Morsman. The setting is Arcadia, OK at a ranch on Choctaw Rd (north of 2nd St/Rt. 66). Choctaw Rd. is lined with farms and rural dwellings, including the Rt. 66 Rock of Ages farm at the northwest corner.
The main character Claire brings along her much loved and constant canine companion Jet, as she embarks on a new job as a horse trainer. Claire arrives at the ranch that is owned by Micah and becomes acquainted with the small but very close staff. They are a great group of people, and the ranch is a haven for them all.
When a neighbor's dog shows up badly injured and acting aggressive, a group from the ranch drives next door to alert the owners. What they find are the two bodies that have been attacked and mutilated. The man is barely alive, and the group attempts to rush him to the nearest hospital. The man "awakens" and viciously attacks his would-be rescuers.
The rest of the plot involves more victims (both human and canine), and a desperate attempt to find out what exactly is going on and how far this virus has spread. With no contact with the outside world, the ranch staff are left to deal with the matter themselves.
(I won't say any more about the plot so as to not ruin the fun for anyone else).
Claire has a specific way of calming herself (yoga mantras didn't work for her): she repeats the words Pottawattamie County. Pottawattamie is not only a County in Oklahoma, but also the name of a street that is a few miles east of the above mentioned intersection.
This a good read, and I enjoyed the plot, but I have never in my entire life read a book with more misused words/spelling errors. These are errors that a spell checker would not catch, but a human should.
I just learned that the cover has been changed, so I'm glad I purchased the book with the original cover art (I like it).

p. 14: "Finally, I'm at the last stop sign I will be facing on Rt. 66. I turn on my left hand blinker and check that the street sign says Choctaw Rd. and not 'Welcome to Hell'."
