The Structure on the end of Porthcawl Breakwater, is often called Porthcawl Lighthouse, but is currently in use as a navigational aid, I believe it is in fact a range light.
The Black & White lighthouse was built in 1860. I have been told that Porthcawl Lighthouse was the last coal powered lighthouse in the UK.
The lighthouse was switched to being powered by North Sea gas in 1974, & currently powered by electricity since 1997.
The Porthcawl RNLI inshore lifeboat, launches from the Breakwater ramp.
