Papakeechie was the Chief of the indian's that inhabited the Wawasee Lake area when the first settlers arrived here.

With this as the border of the reserve it allowed settelers to make use of the water flowing from Wawasee since the exit of water runs to the west of the border and the reserve was to the east. Syracuse and the first dam and mill were located just a mile or so north and west of here.
