The Major General Clarence Ransom Edwards was the World War I commander of the U.S. Army's 26th Division, the "Yankee Division", which was composed of National Guard troops from all six New England states.
The General is standing on a bronze platform on top of a cubic granite pedestal. He is wearing a World War I era military uniform, with a military cap, overcoat, and knee-high boots with spurs. He is standing at attention with his arms straight down and his fists clenched.
The 7' by 3' by 2.5' bronze statue rests on a pedestal which is 3.5" on each side. It was created by George H. Snowden with funding from the State Commission on Sculpture. The statue was dedicated on May 30, 1942.
