Martello Towers were built along the coast of East Sussex and Kent as a defence against the French during 1793 to 1815.

This Martello Tower was constructed in 1806 and is a brick design covered in a concrete render. It is approximately 30 feet high and has walls about 6ft thick. Inside there is a central brick pillar which features vaulted arches. Originally the ground floor was where the magazine store was located with the other floors as the living quarters. A gun emplacement was located on the roof and a ditch ran around the base which has now been partly filled and converted into a garden. The door is now about 2 feet from the ground. As is common with conversions to Martello Towers the roof has an added windowed top for panoramic views.
The tower has been Grade II Listed since 11th March 1975.
