In Taunton, within the Miles Standish Industrial Park, is a weather radar maintained by the National Weather Service (NWS). This radar covers the entire southeastern New England area.
To get to the radar, from I-495, take the exit for Bay Street, then travel south a short distance to enter the Miles Standish Industrial Park. Follow the road until you see the spherical installation and a water tank on the right. The installation is across the street and just beyond a parking lot from the NWS office at Taunton at 445 Miles Standish Blvd.
A public service announcement stated that they were putting the radar offline while they upgraded the facility to a dual polarization technology. The announcement stated that the Taunton facility would be one of the earliest installations of this technology, and should have taken place in January 2012.
