Marker Text: In the spring of 1843, John C. Fremont an official explorer for the U.S. Govt., left St. Louis with a select group which included some of the most noted mountain men, Kit Carson, Joe Walker, and Brokenhand Fitzgarald. This area was a campsite for the explorers. NOTE: actually it was Brokenhand Fitzpatrick not Fitzgarald.
