This replica is one of approximately 200 statues in 39 states dedicated by the Boy Scouts to mark their 40th anniversary. The project was originated by Kansas City businessman and scout leader Jack P. Whitaker. Local scout troops purchased the statues for about $350 and donated them to the community.

This statue sits on a white pedestal with the dedication plaque (see below) and an inscription of the Scout Law. It is constructed from sheet copper covering a wooden frame and stands more than eight feet tall (without the pedestal), weighing in at nearly 300 pounds.
