The historic charming United Methodist Church at Perry TX (NOT named for the guv or any of his family, thank God) was built in 1884 of pine and cypress. It still stands today, and is an active house of worship.
It is United Methodist Church Historic Site No. 346.
The Perry Methodist Church is a wonderfully preserved example of the old country church. Very modestly appointed inside, yet beautiful and elegant, the Perry UMC church has been serving the faithful of this rural part of Falls County for nearly 150 years.
The Perry Methodist Church spire is an NGS benchmark, and can be seen from miles away on Hwy 6.
Although Perry is a ghost town, a few families still live close by. If you stop by the church the neighbor next door will come over and let you in. Be careful - he flirts with all the ladies (but having been married for 50 years, is harmless). He is the caretaker, and rides a mean lawnmower.
