This monument at the Haagsche Schouwweg in Leiden was founded in memory of the 52 soldiers who were killed in the fight against the occupying forces near the Haagsche Schouw and the airfields Ockenburg and Valkenburg.
Also the monument honors the soldiers of the 22nd Depot battalion that on May 10, 1940 fought the German parachutists to get hold to the bridge at the Haagsche Schouw.

The monument at the Haagsche Schouwweg Leiden is a brick wall with a central memorial column. On the pillar there is attached a white stone relief and a plaque. In front of the column there are a number of steps and a flagpost.
The monument is at the side of the road next to the cemetery Rhijnhof.
